Why is the Choice of Clutch Plates So Important?

Motorcycle clutch plates are core components that transmit engine power. A substandard clutch plate can not only cause clutch slippage and difficult shifting but also wear out quickly under high temperatures, shortening the lifespan of the entire clutch system. For distributors and repair shops, choosing the right product means lower return rates and higher customer satisfaction.

Key Parameter 1: Friction Material

The friction material is the most critical performance indicator of a clutch plate. There are currently three mainstream friction materials on the market:

  • Paper-Based Friction Material: The most common, low cost, suitable for daily commuting models, with average heat resistance (≤150°C).
  • Cork Composite Material: Good elasticity, soft feel, suitable for small to medium displacement models, with medium heat resistance.
  • Aramid Fiber (Kevlar): High-performance material, strong heat resistance (≥200°C), suitable for sport and large-displacement models, at a higher price.

Key Parameter 2: Thickness Tolerance

OEM standards require the thickness tolerance of friction plates to be controlled within ±0.05mm. Products exceeding this tolerance will cause deviations in the total thickness of the stacked clutch plate set, affecting the separation travel and engagement feel. When purchasing, be sure to request a thickness inspection report from the supplier.

Key Parameter 3: Inner and Outer Diameter Dimensions

The inner and outer diameters of the clutch plate must be identical to the original factory specifications, otherwise, it cannot be installed correctly. It is recommended to verify the following three dimensions before placing an order: Outer Diameter (OD), Inner Diameter (ID), and the number and shape of teeth.

How to Verify a Supplier's Product Quality?

Before making a formal bulk purchase, it is recommended to verify the supplier through the following steps:

  1. Request samples and test them on an actual vehicle for at least 500 kilometers.
  2. Request third-party inspection reports (SGS, TÜV, etc.).
  3. Verify ISO 9001 quality management system certification.
  4. Understand the supplier's warranty policy and after-sales service process.

Summary

When choosing motorcycle clutch plates, don't just look at the price. Friction material, thickness tolerance, and dimensional accuracy are the three core indicators that determine product quality. Choosing a certified supplier who can provide inspection reports is the only way to truly protect your business profits and customer satisfaction.
