Replacement Steps (Using CBR150R as an example)

  1. Drain the engine oil and remove the clutch cover (usually 6–8 bolts).
  2. Remove the pressure plate springs (note: loosen them evenly in a crisscross pattern).
  3. Take out the old friction plates and steel plates, and clean the inner wall of the clutch drum.
  4. Soak the new friction plates in engine oil for 15–30 minutes (Important!).
  5. Install the friction plates and steel plates alternately in the original order.
  6. Install the pressure plate and tighten the spring bolts to the specified torque evenly in a crisscross pattern.
  7. Add engine oil and check the clutch feel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why does the new clutch plate slip after installation?
A: New plates require a break-in period (about 200–300 km), and slight slippage is normal initially. If it still slips after the break-in period, check if the spring tension is sufficient or confirm if the friction plate specifications are correct.

Q: Do the steel plates need to be replaced at the same time?
A: It is recommended to replace them at the same time. Steel plates can warp due to heat after long-term use. Even if the friction plates are new, warped steel plates will affect the smoothness of clutch engagement.
